Darthea Collins grew up sailing at the Hingham Yacht Club in turnabouts
and on her family's cruising boat Pegasus. She was an active member
of Hingham's Junior Racing and Sailing program and competed in many
MASS BAY SAILING ladder events as a Junior and Senior.
When first married, she crewed for her husband, Bill, on his 210
#30 and in 1974 won Quincy Bay Race Week and finished 5th in the National
210 Championships. She went on to crew on 210# 28, an all women boat
sailed out of Hingham Yacht Club that was very successful. She co-skippered
Escapade with her husband, an Islander 37, which won the MASS BAY
Season Championship for PHRF Class D for six years in a row.
She currently skippers an Evelyn 32 in Hingham Bay PHRF and has been
a consistant winner on Wednesday Nights in Fleet A finishing third
for the 2007 Season. She is currently on the board of Hingham Bay
PHRF and is the Fleet Handicapper for Hingham Bay PHRF.
She is the past winner of the Priscilla Cobb Dresser Trophy given
by the Hingham Yacht Club to the outstanding female skipper of the
year. She was the winner of the Hingham Yacht Club Holt Trophy for
best performance for a season. She is a former member of the New England
Yacht Racing Council and was coordinator of the Area A Ladder Events.
She has been an active volunteer in the National Women's Sailing
Association's AdventureSail program held each year at Courageous Sailing
Center held in conjuction with the Big Sister Association of Greater
Boston. She has been Secretary for MBSA for six years and instrumental
member of the board of MBSA helping with ladder events and the Junior
Olympics.
