Barefoot Regatta!
July 24, 2014

The Flip Flop Is Going “Barefoot” This Year!

As you may have heard by now, the Ally Foundation sadly is putting the Flip Flop Regatta on hiatus for one year and won’t be holding the race as initially planned on Saturday, August 9th. But fear not; the Constitution Yacht Club has stepped in and put together the “Barefoot Regatta” (www.barefootregatta.org) for the same day, and Mass Bay Sailing has decided to make the Barefoot a Pursuit Championship Qualifier.

To those of you who’ve done the Flip Flop before, you’ll find the Barefoot Regatta to be remarkably similar in structure. We’ll have a number of Spinnaker and Jib & Main fleets, with several courses that start out in Broad Sound and finish inside Boston Harbor. The skippers meeting Friday night and the post-race tent party (sponsored by Gosling’s) will be at the Courageous Sailing Center on Pier 4 in Charlestown.

Your entry fee to the race will include two (Skipper Level), six (Captain Level) or ten (Admiral Level) tickets to the Gosling’s Tent Party, and you or your crew can buy additional tickets for just $50 (until August 1st, $60 after that date) directly on the Barefoot web site. Admission includes complimentary cocktails, food catered by Blue Ribbon BBQ, live music with Chris Waller and the Ron Poster Band and what is sure to be a rollicking good time under the big tent overlooking Boston Harbor. There will be dockage available Friday and/or Saturday night for out-of-town boats for a small additional charge.

Not only will this be a great race and party, but the proceeds raised from this event will benefit Boston area non-profit sailing organizations. If you were already planning on doing the Flip Flop we sincerely hope you will participate in the Barefoot Regatta this year instead. And if you were not planning on racing that day, please consider coming on down to Boston and going Barefoot!!!
