CLUB OF THE YEAR
The club of the year award is typically for a yacht club or organization that has stood out for one reason or another in the past year. This years recipient not only provided ample opportunities for racers to compete, but does so every year, year in and year out.
The Eastern Yacht Club and their tireless Race Committee hosted the IOD Worlds in June, ran the outside line at NOODs in July, with over 60 J105s, Etchells and IODs. In August they hosted the J105 North Americans (40+ J105s), and in September the Etchells North Americans (nearly 40 Etchells). They also ran the Lambert Race (where for the first time I remember they got TWO races in), the Annual Regatta (almost 60 boats!!) and the final event of the Mass Bay Season, the inaugural Chowder Cup Race (36 boats). In addition, they carried out our normal MRA schedule, beginning with a two-day regatta over Memorial Day, and ending with a two-day regatta over Labor Day. And bear in mind that does not even include all of the weekday events they run such as team racing, V15s and Lasers.
So, please join me in thanking the 2011 Yacht Club of the Year for all the work they do that makes our racing possible, the EASTERN YACHT CLUB!
